The certificate of location is essential to define the legal and physical situation of your property. For any sale or purchase transaction, or during renovation work, it is strongly recommended to have an up-to-date certificate of location.

The time can vary depending on the complexity of the file and is subject to variation depending on the season, with approximately 2 weeks in winter and up to 8 weeks in summer.

A certificate of location is generally valid for a period of 10 years provided that no changes have been made to the property or its surroundings, and no new municipal, provincial, or federal regulatory provisions have been introduced.

A boundary settlement permanently and definitively determines the limit between 2 adjacent properties by placing survey markers and publishing a boundary report, while staking is the physical representation of the property’s boundaries by placing survey markers.

For some services such as staking, the neighbours agreement and presence are advisable.
